Kind of a Big Deal

Well, I was walking down the street early yesterday
When I spied a pretty lady a-walkin’ down my way
She drew closer, I stood taller, hoping that she’d notice me
Then saw that it was her that broke my heart at seventeen

She stopped and said hello and then she told me ’bout her life
She’s still with the guy she left me for – been with him all this time
But she was still pure evil and she laughed when she said, “Man,
I hear you’re wasting your time in some dumb acoustic band.”

I tried to pretend that I don’t mind
But these old wounds got busted open wide

So I said…

I’m kind of a big deal, didn’t you know that?
Yes, people know me everywhere, it’s true
I’m kind of a big deal, didn’t you know that?
I wish that I could say the same for you

Well, I regained my composure and I went along my way
And things were going fine until I heard a deep voice say,
“Stop right there son – turn and put your hands behind your head.
I can’t find me no car thieves so I’ll strip-search you instead.”

I forced a smile and tried to let it pass
But I don’t want no cop up in my

As I said…

I’m kind of a big deal, didn’t you know that?
Yes, people know me everywhere, it’s true
I’m kind of a big deal, didn’t you know that?
I wish that I could say the same for you

Well, that night we got dressed up and went out to play a show
But when we got onstage we found some guy we didn’t know
He said that he’d been booked for the exact some time and place
So we took out our guitars and we melted off his face

Because…

We’re kind of a big deal, didn’t you know that?
Yes, people know us everywhere, it’s true
We’re kind of a big deal, didn’t you know that?
I wish that I could say the same
I wish that I sould say the same
I wish that I could say the same for you
